This was my favorite job in recent years, mostly because of the location. The house was surrounded by farmland, and there was one other house on this mile or so long road. When we stopped working, the sounds you could hear were the wind and the birds. (well, O.K., if the wind was light and you listened hard you could hear cars on the freeway in the distance.) It helped that we were there in early fall and the weather was perfect. It was the kind of place where when you hear a car coming down the road, you look to see who is is.

This historic farmhouse was built in the 1800's by the great grandfather of the current owners. We were given the task with replacing an added on porch with one that was more sympathetic to the original structure.

The new design included brick piers, single direction lattice and molding details copied from the formal porch on the front of the house.
